I created .meta sub-folders inside my two movie subfolders. They worked fine, but they show up in my "Now Playing" list on the tivo.
I patched my repo so dot folders such as .meta will no longer show up in the NPL using auto_subshares. It will be included in the windows installer update tonight.

The TiVoToGo functionality doesn't indicate which recordings are unable to be downloaded. The "Transfer this" link shows up, but of course when you click it nothing happens if the show is copy-protected.

Yeah I need to work on that. I guess I can toss in a free amazon unbox to test it out.

Also, the downloaded file doesn't contain the episode title, but the Now Playing ID instead.

For example, I downloaded "Robot Chicken: Federated Resources" and got a file named "Robot Chicken - 486080.TiVo."

netphoenix, what do you mean by this? Can you navigate subfolders without either hack83 or auto_subfolders turned on? How?

I finally updated my release.

I added a feature to the admin plugin which allows pyTivo to download shows from the TiVo for you using the ToGo function. To use this you need to have the admin plugin installed. ...

Um, how do you get this to work? Web page?

what kind of transfer speeds are you guys getting? I'm getting only about 800-900kb/s. I have PC hardwired gigE and tivo has wireless 54g. I'm not sure what was the speed using tivo desktop but it was faster than this. Also, maybe the text at the end of the transfer should be Transfer Completed instead of Transfer Stopped. It sounds like it errored out, But I'm getting full file. I know its alot to ask but I would also like auto transfer feature. I have uninstalled tivo desktop and am only using pyTivo now. Awesome program, thanks to everyone who is working on it.

and they never transfer back properly.

Ahh yeah that is where my issue is occuring. It used to transfer back fine on my SD TiVo. And I read in some other places that other users were having issues too. I guess the solution is to run tivodecode -> ffmpeg transcode?? Seems like a waste but I guess it would be necessary to reduce the video resolution and bit rate anyways.

Finally got some downtime and spent the better part of this weekend looking for a solution. Actually finally found one.

It seems the .mpg that results from tivodecode is not quite up to spec. Not sure what is wrong with it, but VLC's streaming capability can fix it and leave you with a compliant MPEG2 file in either Transport Stream or Program Stream format.

I'm on a Mac, but I think the Windows VLC should work the same.

Here's how:

1) Open VLC.

2) Choose File->Open File... .

3) Browse for the mpg file output from tivodecode and click Open when it's selected. This should take you back to the Open Source window. DO NOT click OK yet.

4) Check the Stream/Saving checkbox and click Settings.

5) In the Streaming/Transcoding Options window choose the File option and designate an output file. Make sure Dump raw input is UNCHECKED.

6) On the Encapsulation Method drop down menu, choose either MPEG TS for Transport Stream (.ts file) or MPEG PS for Program Stream (.vob file) and click OK to go back to the Open Source Window.

7) Click OK on the Open Source window and wait for VLC to stream the original file to the new output file and fix whatever wierdness was causing the audio stuttering.

NOTE: A side effect of the transformation seems to be losing a few frames at the end of the recording. I assume this is because the final GOP in the original file is not complete so VLC seems to stop on the last complete GOP and ignore the final partial GOP.

If you chose the .vob file format, then pyTivo will happily transfer it back to your Tivo without transcoding meaning full original quality.

If you chose the .ts file format, then pyTivo will have to transcode it back to vob format for uploading to your Tivo and some artifacting will result. However, .ts format is useful for feeding to Handbrake if you wish to convert it to an h264 encoded mkv. Handbrake refuses to work with the .vob format from VLC conversion.

Also, if you are versed in the VLC command line interface, you can of course do the conversion that way suitable for scripting.

Thanks krkeegan for putting the download feature into your web interface. I used it to grab the .tivo file from my Series 3 to start with.

BTW, MPEG Streamclip can also be used to kinda fix the tivodecode'd mpg using the Convert to MPEG or Convert to TS feature. I say kinda because the resulting files will play fine in VLC and Mplayer, but when I feed the MPEG Streamclip fixed ts file to Handbrake, I get a ton of audio sync problems during encoding to h264 for mkv. Handbrake doesn't have those audio sync problems when feed the VLC fixed ts file.

My goal is to download from my Series 3, use MPEG Streamclip to cut out the commercials, then encode to h264 in an mkv via Handbrake. I think I can preserve close to the original quality at just a little over 1/4 the file size for 1080i sources by downconverting to 720p and applying Handbrake's new detelecine and variable frame rate features.

And now that I have a proper mpg file I'm going to see if comskip works better than the last time I tested it on the stuttering mpg. If it does, then I can automate the whole process.

BTW, I'm stunned at how well pyTivo and the transcode plugin work with uploading a good 720p mkv source. Thank you all for pyTivo. Without it I would have never started down this path or learned so much so fast about how all this works.
