I noticed that if I transfer a file from TiVo desktop into my pyTivo file directory, I can see quite a bit of information about the video. If I transfer a similar file using pyTivo's ToGo feature, I don't (i.e., just the Series title and a number). Is there anyway to enhance the information I see on via my Tivo before starting the transfer?

Here's what I found.

You can download the latest version of MetaGenerator here:

http://pytivo.krkeegan.com/metagenerator-release-notes-t11.html?highlight=metagenerator

It doesn't seem to come with any installation/usage instructions, so here's what I suggest:

1. Download the zip file, copy the file to a directory on a local drive and unzip it (maybe it's my unRAID NAS, but the application crashes if run from a mapped network drive).
2. Launch the application. The only configuration needed is to point it at your default video store (File, Options).
3. If you looking to create a metadata file about a TV show you've recorded and want to serve back to your TiVo via pyTivo, type the show's title into the input field and hit the Search button.
4. The show's title should now appear in the left hand column (as well as others, depending on how much information you provided). Highlight the series in question and click the Select Series button.
5. After a brief pause the various episodes should appear in the right hand column.
6. Find the show you're interested in and click the Select Episode button. A window should pop up showing all the relevant data for that show.
7. Click the Save button. The application will now ask you to identify the video file for which you are generating the metadata information.
8. Navigate to the file in question and click on the Open button. The application will now generate a text file with the same name (but with a .txt extension) and save it in the same directory as the video file.
9. You're done. Once you point your TiVo to that file, the system will read the metadata file and show you information about the show. The same steps can be carried out for movies as well (the other tab).

[/list]

Well, I guess that depends on what you mean by "fully documented." Smile It's a great, very powerful tool. But I couldn't find what I would consider a beginner's installation/use guide in the 12 pages of release notes/discussion.
