I was just thinking that it would be cool to have a way to view the list of movies available in an indexed list at the top of the folder so you could see what's available before scrolling through everything. It would certainly be quicker.

I created a dummy movie and added the movie list to the description, but that seemed a little hokey to me. It would also be manual to maintain.

Any thoughts on this? Is it even plausible?

So, you mean there would be a dummy movie or file at the top of the share, and the metadata would contain a listing of everything that's currently available in that share ?
You could download the dummy movie, hit the "info" button, and scroll through the complete listing ?

That's exactly what my original thought was, but it was too static. Then I started thinking that since pyTivo runs all the time (at my house, at least) there could be a process that periodically updates an index file of some sort. The index file could be viewed in the info section of a dummy video (as suggested above), or there might be another way to display this info. Either way, all you need is a list of the movies available for pyTivo to download (or upload, whatever). The use case being that I don't know what movie I'm looking for and would like to quickly see a complete movie list rather than slowly scrolling through every folder or individual listing.

I don't really see the use of this.

You realize that you can toggle folders on and off by pressing '2', right? As for scrolling, it should be pretty quick now, assuming you're using a recentish version (post Valentine's day). Oh, and you don't have to wait for the "Please wait..." pop-up to clear before paging down again.

I use folders a little, but the scrolling is still pretty time consuming for me. I'm using the latest wgw fork on a windows laptop, but definitely have to wait for the "Please wait..." to clear before paging down again. My network is all 100MB off a NAS drive (that could be the problem, I suppose).

Either way, I think the idea of glancing at a quick list of available movies (from a text file) rather than taking the time to wait for each page of actual movies to load would be much quicker. Wading through to the end of a long list just to decide I want to see something back near the beginning can get time consuming and tiresome (well it's not taking years off my life, but you know what I mean).

Anyhow, that's my reasoning. If there's a better way to get this info at a glance, let me know.

I definitely have to wait for the "Please wait..." to clear before paging again. I'm running pyTivo as a Windows service. It's a recent wmcbrine build, no more than a few weeks old at this point. Is there an option I need to set (or unset) to enable this? Could this be a Windows problem? Am I the only one that has to wait for the list to refresh before moving on?

Ok, I may have figured this out. I can page down quickly (i.e. without waiting for the "Please Wait...") when navigating a folder without folders in it (just a list of movies). But if there are subfolders, then I have to wait for Please Wait... to clear before moving on.

It would be great, though, if there were some scroll jump greater than a single page, but less than the end jump. With the number of programs on the server inching up into the thousands, even with folders in place it is starting to take a long time to get to the programs starting with "M".
