|
|
I have a few questions regarding the Metadata feature as well as the music plugin.
1.) I currently use MetaGenerator to create metadata information for my video files. It works great for what it is designed to do, however, I'm looking for a more automated process. Does anyone currently use an automated solution (i.e. video file is downloaded to a directory, a program detects the addition, and creates a metadata file automatically)? Any kind of input on your current process for creating metadata would be great.
2.) I understand that I need to have the SeriesID in the metadata file in order for it to show up in a Group AFTER I transfer it to Tivo. However, is there a way for this to be grouped together on the pyTivo's NPL? This would make browsing the share cleaner.
3.) If I use sub-folders within my share, it always shows (0) next to the folder name even though there are files in it. Ideally, I could use this count to see if I've received any new videos in my directory, since I do the torrent auto-download route.
4.) The music plugin works great for individual files and playlists. My question is, even though I choose Shuffle=on, it doesn't appear to shuffle (still plays in alphabetical order). Also, one annoying thing is I can't fast forward within a song. I'm pretty sure I was able to do this when I used Tivo Desktop back in the day.
This is a great program, and I appreciate any comments. Thanks. |

Shuffle works. What version are you using?

Yes. Basically, the music plugin needs to understand MP3s on a deeper level to make this work. It's on my agenda, I know how to do it, I just need to get around to it. (I've also hesitated a bit because I went to some trouble to shorten the delay between songs -- trying to get near seamless playback for albums that are recorded that way -- and this would lengthen it again. So I may have to make it an option.) _________________ My pyTivo fork |

I can speak on this part. AFAIK, there is no automated process out there that works. I didn't create an automated process simply because I believe one can not exist. The reason why I say this is because people name their files so differently, there is no way to automatically get the "correct" metadata every time. Too often errors will come up, especially when we are talking about TV shows. Movies could potentially work, but I believe it creates too many errors.
My opinion is that the generation of metadata has to be at a somewhat manual process. Sure the data can be acquired using online data services, but finding that data manually will be the only way to correctly acquire that data every time.

I believe this is a Tivo bug and not a pyTivo problem. I think this has been broken for a while now and people have been trying to find workarounds for a while. _________________ MetaGenerator

I'm using the latest branch located here: http://repo.or.cz/w/pyTivo/wgw.git . I can do some more testing, but it might be that it shuffles playlists ok, but doesn't do it for folders or sub-folders. |

I'm having the same problem with shuffle: I can't get it to work with folders or playlists, it just plays in order. I also can't FF/RW during music playback. I've tried with the version that came with the snapshot I'm using and the 0.9 download from the thread on TCF. _________________ pyTiVo on Ubuntu 8.10 |

Still works for me...

No, that's not supported yet. As mentioned above. _________________ My pyTivo fork |

| Could the shuffle thing be Tivo dependent? I don't really do the music thing much, but the last time I did it, maybe in early december, before the flurry of development, shuffle didn't work, and I think I remember even using TivoDesktop long ago, shuffle didn't work. (I've got an older Series 2) |

Still no shuffle love on the latest snapsnot. I can see the "random sort order" parameter and seed being sent, but the playlist still plays in the order of the m3u file.
| Code: | 192.168.1.77 - - [01/Mar/2008 22:01:50] "GET /TiVoConnect?Command=QueryContainer&
Container=pyMusic%2F1-Playlists%2FPop%20Goes
%20the%20Weasel.m3u&Recurse=Yes&
Filter=audio%2F*&SortOrder=Random&
RandomSeed=1204427111&ItemCount=1&
Details=Optimal&Format=text%2Fxml HTTP/1.0" 200 -

It does seem to work with folders now, though.

Oh, with playlists... no, I didn't implement it for that. Just for folders. (Also if you enter the playlists via recursive playback of a directory.) Should I? I had the notion that playlists should retain their ordering. (I never checked what Tivo Desktop did there.) _________________ My pyTivo fork |

I've never used TiVo Desktop for playlists, so I'm not sure what it did either. I'm just used to Galleon's behavior.
True, though, I could probably randomize the playlist before exporting it from iTunes. _________________ pyTiVo on Ubuntu 8.10 |
